8 Reasons You're Still Fat
By Liz Ward, Men's Health

1. You're Starving

Slashing too many calories, particularly protein calories, pushes the body to conserve calories rather than burn them. It also forces your body to break down muscle tissue to fuel its vital operations. But that muscle is the key to your metabolism, or the speed at which you burn calories. More muscle means a faster metabolism and less body fat.

Solution: You do need to cut calories to lose weight. (Cut 500 today by eliminating one can of beer, 30 chips, and one Oreo from your diet.) But you need to make sure you're eating at least 1,600 to 1,800 calories each day to keep your metabolism from shutting down. And never cut protein during a diet. If you're a sedentary 200-pounder, you need about 75 grams of protein (about two chicken breasts) a day for muscle preservation. If you're lifting weights, aim for twice that much. Doing aerobics? Pick a number in between.

2. You Inhale Food

If you were a rat, you'd chow down for about 15 minutes, feel full, and stop eating. But you aren't. You probably eat so fast that your stomach hardly has time to alert your brain to tell your mouth to quit chewing before your stomach explodes.

Solution: Try this drill during your next meal. On every bite, chew, swallow, put down your fork, and take a sip of water. See how long it takes you to eat. Now, during subsequent meals, take just as long to eat, only without the drill. Another meal-prolonging trick for men with regular dinner partners: Turn off the TV, put down the Daily Racing Form, and actually have a conversation.

3. You're Too Refined

Most processed breads and cereals contain little fiber, the calorie-free component of plant foods that fills you up, not out. Plus, foods rich in fiber help control blood glucose and insulin levels.

Solution: I never thought I'd say this, but it may be a good idea to cut back on potatoes in any form (especially the fries, fellas). Experts say potatoes raise blood-glucose concentration quickly, as do snack chips, white bread, low-fiber breakfast cereals, and breakfast bars. Whole-grain cereals, nuts, and beans are blame-free, if not calorie-free.

4. Your Eyes are Wide Open

Sleep deprivation decreases the odds of shedding blubber and keeping it off. Researchers found that healthy men who snoozed only 4 or 7 hours a night for 6 nights in a row had higher glucose and insulin levels in their blood. This is a terrible state of metabolism for a man who's trying to lose weight, because surplus insulin boosts body-fat storage.

Solution: Hit the sack for 8 hours each and every night. And try to hit it for the same 8 hours. That is, establish a regular bedtime and waking hour. Pick the time you have to wake up on most days, and make sure you're in bed at least 8 hours before. Company is optional.

5. You Think Fitness Trumps Fatness

Exercise alone won't make you thin. A recent study of military personnel who increased their exercise during a 3-year period found that they gained weight despite their extra efforts. Why? Food, most likely. They simply ate more than they burned off.

Solution: The last thing you want to hear, especially from a female, is that size matters. But trust me on this: Controlling portion size is absolutely essential to weight loss. And the best way to control portion size is to limit how often you eat out. According to the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter, a single restaurant meal often could feed an entire family. A pasta dish at an Italian restaurant might include eight 1-cup servings. A rib dish might have a pound of meat—more than five servings. A side of fries might include 70 of the little devils, which is seven servings. And a nut-filled cinnamon bun in a mall food court could total 1,100 calories—more than half the calorie intake on a typical weight-loss diet. Which brings us to our next point...

6. You Lack Basic Food-Preparations Skills

So you took wood shop instead of home ec. I understand—a man needs to master power tools to feel complete. But unless you find a way to make your bird feeder edible, you need to master weight-loss tools, too. A man whose only kitchen skill involves the speed dial to Domino's is condemned to a diet of grease, salt, white bread, and sugar.

Solution: Step into the kitchen. (That's the room with the oven, sink, and refrigerator.) Open your freezer. You should see frozen berries and vegetables, which are as good as fresh but last many times longer. Look in your cupboards. You should see some canned vegetables, hearty low-fat soups, dried fruit, and slow-cooking oats. These foods help you lose weight because they're filling but low in calories. Best of all, you don't need much more than a can opener and a microwave to make them edible. (Dishes are optional.) This leaves you more time for your power tools.

7. You're Dry

Have another one, bud. Another tall, ice-cold...glass of water. When you're trying to lose weight, water is your workout partner. You need it to flush the waste products your body makes when it breaks down fat for energy, or when it processes protein. You need it to transport nutrients to your muscles. You need it to help digest food and keep your metabolism clicking along. And water keeps you from overheating during intense exercise on hot days.

8. You're Cocky

I've seen it many times: Guy drops 10 or 20 pounds and starts thinking he's Joe Weight Loss. Next thing you know, he's back to beer and pizza—and his original weight.

Solution: Remember that scene in Patton when George C. Scott refuses to pull his troops back, saying he doesn't like to pay twice for the same real estate? Okay, you're Patton, and every 10 pounds of fat you shed is real estate you own outright. Don't give it back. With each 10 pounds you drop, sit down and reassess your diet and exercise program. If you calculated your food intake and exercise volume when you started, run a new set of numbers, based on your new weight and activity level.

Now either go back on the offensive, aiming to conquer the next 10 pounds, or dig in and defend the 10 you've lost. But if you have to take back the pounds you've lost, you've wasted a lot of brave effort.

My life is just like simple mathematics.

I'm trying to add to my income, subtract from my weight, divide my time, and avoid multiplying.

But since I'm horrible at maths, so the equation above will be a bit screwed up here and there. Like, for example, I'm trying to divide my income, add to my weight, multiply my time, and subtract errrrrr........don't know what lah.......

Watch me kill this snake.

First, I'll use my don't know what MP power on him. All I know is..........it's my strongest attack MP.

Power right?????

Then, I use the same MP move on him........and followed by some melee moves.

Power right?????? 80+ damage to the enemy and 30+ to 40+ damage to me.

Then the snake enemy died. HAHAHAHAHA.

86 experience for that.

And I need to sit down after that to replenish my health and MP.

But at least no need to waste $$$$$$$ on potions.

Killed off a few more of those snakes before I get tired and go to kill some bandits.

But the experience are lesser. No kick for me also.

This is a story of.........errrr.......let's call her X. X is your typical average girl living in a typical average place in a typical average home with a typical average family.

One day, X decided to go for a walk in the park. She left her home and walked along the........errrrr.........whatever that is called. Road????? Pavement????? Pathway?????? Anyway, X was on her way to that walk in the park.

Along the way, X met........errrr.......let's call him Y. Y is NOT your typical average guy living in a NOT typical average place in a NOT typical average home with a NOT typical average family.

By some don't what coincidence, both X and Y are actually going for a walk in the park at that particular time. So they walked to the park.

The next day........morning, Y was found dead by some joggers in the park. X was nowhere to be found. Then some nosy parker of a detective came upon the scene and have a look around.

Went ice-skating for the first time yesterday........ ........but that's not the point. The point is.......at this time in my life........still got people think I'm a student. No kids / students in our group during that outing......but somehow.......by some don't know what reasoning........the ticket staffs thought I'm STILL a student...... ......asked to see my student pass some more.

But, such a waste........ .......that I didn't bring out my {expired } student pass that day........otherwise I would sure fake through and paid the student charge instead of some cut-throat adult rate.

Nevermind, from now onward, I'll start carrying my {expired } student pass in my wallet. Then won't missed out on anymore of such future opportunities.

But, while I appear to be externally youthful without even trying. I seem to be internally aged. I'm starting to reminisces more and more and more and more about some long-forgotten past like some retired sappy shriveling aged-old pensioners.

Think I better quit going on and on and on and on for now or I'll end up being like one for real sooner than I expected.

Sillypore Idol II audition is getting nearer and nearer. So I'll first test test the water here. Post down what I'll write in my ACTUAL application to Sillypore Idol II.

Don't know why these few days keep on raining. Want to go out also cannot.

Some more don't know why this type of weather keep making me go to the to non-stop. ..........

But the only things about such weather are:

No need to use the fans/air conditioners = Electrical consumptions are lower = Fewer fuels are being burned = More money saved = Mother Earth becomes very happy

Then very good to in bed for those single people. And those attached/married people can use the opportunities to in bed with each other.

Today I went to Causeway Point. No particular purpose in mind........ ........just to go out walk walk see see.........breathe in the fresh air (Figuratively speaking lah! )

Chinese New Year is coming.......see so many shops having sales!!!!! Nevermind, I decided to go into John Little see see.

Sales your head lah! The prices for those clothings all so expensive. Errr.....to me lah!

But I came across all those perfumes/colognes........the tester bottles type. Then since is test, so I test hor. Think I spray quite a lot of those different type of perfumes/colognes on myself today. First time got so many sweet-smelling scents on myself.

Then I got bored spraying those scents already.

Next items beside are the make-up products. Since I don't like make-up, so I just walked past them. But couldn't quite resist the nail polish section. So I choose ten different colours in the tester bottles and paint my nails. Also first time see my hands so colourful. And I decided to bookmark that section of nail polish in my mind. Then next week or what go and buy one bottle.

Then the rest all lousy = not fun anymore. So proceed to Metro.

Metro only thing nice is also the perfumes/colognes section. Course can use some free samples. But the third level got some cooking demonstrations for some don't know what utensils. Then I just hang around there and watched.........and eat some of the food also.

Time passed so fast without realising it. So decided to call it a day.

First time drank so much wine in one day. Actually, it's second time. But, who's counting, ehhhhhh???????

The start of a new year, and the Sillypore government want to test our reactions already.

SINGAPORE : Singapore's civil emergency agencies are going to test their readiness to respond to multiple bomb attacks at MRT stations and bus interchanges.

A major exercise will be held over the weekend in the first two weeks of January next year, but the public will not be told in advance of the exact date, time and the venues.

Terrorist attacks on public transport networks in Madrid and London are a grim reminder that Singapore's transport network is just as vulnerable.

In fact, since the attacks, security has been beefed up at the train stations and bus interchanges.

January's exercise, involving more than 20 agencies, will test how quickly and effectively they can respond and get the public to cooperate should simultaneous bomb attacks occur on Singapore's train and bus networks.

Said Eric Yap, director of operations at SCDF, "It is important for the public to understand the kind of instructions that will be shared with them at the point when the service is disrupted and also the instruction for them to evacuate themselves to safety."

Among the scenarios to be tested are an explosion inside the train in a tunnel, an explosion at the train platform, a chemical attack at the train station and an explosion on a double-decker bus.

Civil Defence Commissioner James Tan said, "For the commuters involved in the trains and tunnels, they may experience momentarily some blackout situations, but they don't have to worry. We will have guides; we will have officials to guide them out of the tunnels."

A sense of realism will be injected into the civil emergency exercise, which will simulate a series of bomb attacks at four MRT stations and a bus interchange.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force says when that happens, some MRT stations may have to be closed for a while.

There will also be MRT train disruptions which will extend beyond the affected stations.

And there will be ample announcements both within the stations over the broadcast media to inform the public of these inconveniences.

Both SMRT and SBS Transit will be deploying their staff to assist in the evacuation and to direct commuters to alternative transport services like shuttle buses.

Said Kang Huey Ling of SMRT, "Our staff are all first-aid trained. If there are any passengers who are not well, we will assist them immediately."

Civil Defence Commissioner Tan stressed that while commuters would face some inconveniences during the exercise, there is nothing like being prepared and well-honed for an actual event. - CNA /ct

As if the terrorists will advertised their intention when they wish to attack a place.

And can choose to have it on WEEKENDS some more.

I didn't know terrorists have rest days on the weekdays and public holidays.

Want to have drills on these kind of things means cannot announce it to the people AT ALL. Then their reactions will be 100% of the real thing.

Anyway, don't think I'll be out during the first two weeks of the WEEKENDS this month. So this exercise thing won't affect me AT ALL.

New Year's Day 2006: Delayed by a second

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Get ready for a minute with 61 seconds. Scientists are delaying the start of 2006 by the first "leap second" in seven years, a timing tweak meant to make up for changes in the Earth's rotation.

The adjustment will be carried out by sticking an extra second into atomic clocks worldwide at the stroke of midnight Coordinated Universal Time, the widely adopted international standard, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology said this week.

"Enjoy New Year's Eve a second longer," the institute said in an explanatory notice. "You can toot your horn an extra second this year."

Coordinated Universal Time coincides with winter time in London. On the U.S. East Coast, the extra second occurs just before 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Atomic clocks at that moment will read 23:59:60 before rolling over to all zeros.

A leap second is added to keep uniform timekeeping within 0.9 second of the Earth's rotational time, which can speed up or slow down because of many factors, including ocean tides. The first leap second was added on June 30, 1972, according to NIST, an arm of the U.S. Commerce Department.

Since 1999 until recently, the two time standards have been in close enough synch to escape any need to add a leap second, NIST said.

Although it is possible to have a negative leap second -- that is, a second deducted from Coordinated Universal Time -- so far all have been add-ons, reflecting the Earth's general slowing trend due to tidal breaking.

Deciding when to introduce a leap second is the responsibility of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service, a standards-setting body. Under an international pact, the preference for leap seconds is December 31 or June 30.

Precise time measurements are needed for high-speed communications systems among other modern technologies.

I was reading the December issue of PIONEER: The Magazine Of The Singapore Armed Forces, and came across this.

City skyline as the backdrop for future NDPs

Imagine feeling the sea breeze in your hair and being wowed by dazzling fireworks while watching the pomp and pageantry of the National Day Parade with the city skyline as the backdrop.

Well, imagine no more, as this is set to become reality in 2007.

At the Waterfest by the Bay event held on 16 Oct., Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean announced plans to construct a floating platform at Marina Bay, which will be used as the site for National Day parades from 2007 onwards.

"It will offer many interesting opportunities for creative ideas for the National Day Parade. The whole of the bay will be the stage for the parade. It will bring life to the city," said Mr Teo.

The floating platform (the size of a rugby field) will be able to take a load of 10,000 persons, 200 tonnes of stage props and five 30-tonnes vehicles at any one time.

Its modular design means that it can be reconfigured into various sizes and relocated easily.

A seating gallery will also be built along the shoreline. It will have a seating capacity of 30,000. The design will be finalised after the tender process is initiated by the end of this year.

As the City Hall will be undergoing major renovation soon, the Singapore Combat Engineers were tasked to seek alternative locations to hold future National Day Parades.

Working together with other government agencies, the Combat Engineers decided to do something very innovative and exciting and came up with the idea of a floating platform in the middle of Marina Bay.

This multipurpose facility will be jointly built by MINDEF, the Singapore Sports Council and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

It will be used in the interim while the new Kallang Sports Hub is being constructed to replace the National Stadium, which will be demolished in 2007.

According to Mr Teo, the new facility will also provide an opportunity to hold other kinds of activities such as concerts and boat shows.

What the heck?????????? WASTING TAX PAYERS' MONEY ONLY!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, do we REALLY and TRULY need to build another location / venue to celebrate the National Day??????????? To have the National Stadium (and sometimes that City Hall field) is already more than enough.

Also, whatever happened to HISTORY????????? That National Stadium have been with Sillypore for don't know how many years already, don't those smart alexes feel anything just tearing it down like that in 2007?????????

I'M WORKING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA. Started on Wednesday.........then happened that my first day is the last day of the work week......... ......so I'll have three rest days before my second day.......

Quite worth it..........for a temporary full-time job that is.........until I look around to further my career in the maritime industry........

Then now that I can afford to buy some food supplies.......... .........just found out that..........THE PRICES WENT UP!!!!!!!!!

I went down to buy my lunch. After looking through all the stalls, decided to settle on Roti Prata. Cause it's been don't-know-how-long since I last tasted it.

Me: I'll take two pieces of Roti prata.

Stall Owner: Okay.

*Getting my order ready*

Stall Owner: That'll be one-twenty.

Me: Huh??????

Stall Owner: ONE DOLLAR AND TWENTY CENTS.

Me: Ohhhhh.......

Saw II Movie~

Just watched finished!!!!! HAHAHA. Better than the Saw I movie.......more gory.....more gross......more nice......HAHAHAHAHA.......

*SPOILERS*

A lot of the mysteries in Saw I will be revealed in Saw II.......like the location of the bathroom for one........and the survivor of the jigsaw game, Amanda, will also be in Saw II.......shown initially as one of those people trapped in the house.........but revealed to be something else at the end........and the focus here will be the detective......and his son is the pawn in the game.......

The aim is to get to the antidote in the safe of the room where those victims are trapped in at the start........before the poison takes effect......and there's only three hours for them to complete the game.......

Some scenes from the movies. MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

This is the intro scene.......that guy couldn't bear to cut the flesh below his eye for the key to remove that thing on him.......so he died.......HAHAHAHA......

This is the oven scene........the guy who got those people in the house is trapped inside that oven.......they managed to smash the glass to get him out.......but it was too late......and he died......HAHAHAHA......

This is the crime scene.......from the intro scene.....and that's the detective that'll star in the show.......recognised that lady standing beside the detective?????

This is Amanda.......she cut her hair in this movie.......looked so different.......she's one of the person behind the jigsaw game......she's looking for the key to open the door to the exit.........managed to find it.........but there's wasn't enough time to open the door........and they're locked in........

Well, today I went out window-shopping at Pasir Ris. Course at home a bit boring. And also due to an interview held there. After that, I don't know why somehow ended up in Popular bookshop. Then I came across those Mr Midnight books.......and remember someone in a forum mentioning about it.......feeling bored, I decided to read through one of them.

It's supposed to be a horror novel.........BUT NOT SCARY AT ALL!!!!! Then the plot so cheesey........so fake........

Which remind me of last time......long long ago......when I'm still an innocent gullible small little girl.........

I remember watching Ultraman / Power Rangers / Transformers.......and being captivated by the special effects / plots.........

Then now........when I'm watching Ultraman / Power Rangers / Transformers..........the special effects / plots ARE SUPER CHEESEY..........SUPER FAKE...........

2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the TV remote because they refuse to walk to the TV and change the channel manually.

3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4. When people say "It's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna kick their asses!

5. When people say while watching a film "Did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

But good meh????? When I hit the two digits figures in my life?????? When I just completed about a quarter of MY LIFE!!!!!!! When that means there's ONLY ANOTHER THREE QUARTER OF MY LIFE LEFT IN THIS UNIVERSE!!!!!!!! Haiz........stories of my life........

And what have I done so far???????

NOTHING!!!!! Never contribute anything life changing to the entire human race........ .....just another plain, simple, average speck of life form living in a corner of the universe....... ......what a waste of space hor?????

The only good thing about November the 3rd is that a lot of events......occasions.....HOLIDAYS......festivals......EXAMS......will be on or/and around this day.......

And from my 7th to 21st years.........hate looking forward to this day due to EXAMS..... .....from 6th and below years.....too young to remember...... ......but the 22nd year is when I don't have exams to study/revise for....meaning I'm FREE to do what I want today....... ........yet still the same as all previous years........

But what's the point?????? Still no different from any other day to me also......
My life is so predictable.........so peaceful.......so BORING!!!!!!!

Initially, I thought it's the country. Sillypore so peaceful.......so nice.....no natural disasters......low crime rates.......

But NO!!!!! It's ME!!!!!!!

When Sillypore got that FLOOD in the eastern part of the country, those EARTHQUAKE TREMORS, those BLACKOUTS, those crazy people jumping onto the M.R.T. TRACKS, that infamous Nicole Highway COLLAPSE, that don't-know-what construction site COLLAPSE, those TANKERS / SHIPS COLLISIONS, those S.A.R.S. CASES.................

I WASN'T THERE!!!!!!!! My life still go on AS USUAL!!!!!!

Even those toopig crimes like robberies, muggings, thefts, murders, kidnappings, blah blah blah........those traffic accidents......those illnesses, diseases, blah blah blah.......also never affect ME!!!!!!

But still........I'm thankful...... ......no doubt there's no disruptions in my routine.......I lived each and every passing seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years in a BORING, predictable and peaceful routine...... ......at least I know what's going on in my life........I know what to expect......I know how to relax...............and that counts for A LOT!!!!!

Moral of the story????? TREASURE what you have!!!!!!!! Even if life screws you up.........OR MOST IMPORTANTLY even if life NEVER screws you up (Like ME!!!!!)..........don't complain so much..........

Iran jails blogger for 14 years

An Iranian weblogger has been jailed for 14 years on charges of spying and aiding foreign counter-revolutionaries.

Arash Sigarchi was arrested last month after using his blog to criticise the arrest of other online journalists.
Mr Sigarchi, who also edits a newspaper in northern Iran, was sentenced by a revolutionary court in the Gilan area.
His sentence, criticised by human rights watchdog Reporters Without Borders, comes a day after an online "day of action" to secure his release.
Iranian authorities have recently clamped down on the growing popularity of weblogs, restricting access to major blogging sites from within Iran.
A second Iranian blogger, Motjaba Saminejad, who also used his website to report on bloggers' arrests, is still being held.

Millions of Iranians view the internet as a place to express themselves

'Illegal and incompetent'

A spokesman for Reporters Without Borders, which tracks press freedom across the globe, described Mr Sigarchi's sentence as "harsh" and called on Iranian President Mohammed Khatami to work to secure his immediate release.
"The authorities are trying to make an example of him," the organisation said in a statement. By handing down this harsh sentence against a weblogger, their aim is to dissuade journalists and internet-users from expressing themselves online or contacting foreign media."
"The eyes of 8m bloggers are going to be more focused on Iran since Sigarchi's sentence, not less." Curt Hopkins, Committee to Protect Bloggers.
In the days before his arrest Mr Sigarchi gave interviews to the BBC Persian Service and the US-funded Radio Farda.
Iranian authorities have arrested about 20 online journalists during the current crackdown.
They accused Mr Sigarchi of a string of crimes against Iranian state, including espionage, insulting the founder of Iran's Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomenei, and current Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mr Sigarchi's lawyer labelled the revolutionary court "illegal and incompetent" and called for a retrial in a public court.

Web campaign

Mr Sigarchi was sentenced one day after an online campaign highlighted his case in a day of action in defence of bloggers around the world.
The Committee to Protect Bloggers designated 22 February 2005 as Free Mojtaba and Arash Day.
Around 10,000 people visited the campaign's website during the day. About 12% of users were based in Iran, the campaign's director told the BBC News website.
Curt Hopkins said Mr Sigarchi's sentence would not dent the resolve of bloggers joining the campaign to help highlight the case.
"The eyes of 8 million bloggers are going to be more focused on Iran since Sigarchi's sentence, not less.
"The mullahs won't be able to make a move without it be spread across the blogosphere."
